Get Your Website up and Running Quickly on Your Own Hosting Account

by Jack Spencer

If you own websites or if you design them, one of the things that you need to understand is exactly how a web hosting platform operates. Understanding the basics of web hosting can help you grow your business in a number of different ways that you might not even be familiar with. Although it may seem like simplistic information, ignoring it can be detrimental to your overall business plans.

As far as hosting companies are concerned, there are literally thousands of them for you to choose from that are currently online. That being said, there are really only three different types of hosting accounts that are available to you. These would include shared hosting, VPS and dedicated servers. If you are able to distinguish between these three, your business will grow as a result.

The most common type of server that is available is a shared hosting account and most individual webmasters or businesses get their start on one of these types of servers. It is the same as any other type of server but the real difference is that you will be sharing the physical box with a number of other webmasters. You will still have your own little chunk of the box that nobody else will be able to access, but there may be thousands of other websites that are available on the same server. This can cause some problems.

It is a rare thing that you will find a hosting company who is willing to tell you how many other websites are on one of the shared servers. One of the main problems that occurs whenever you’re on the shared hosting account is that other websites might be running scripts that could slow the entire server down. This rarely ever happens on a reliable host, but it is still something that you need to keep in mind.

The next type of hosting is a virtual Private server, usually referred to as a VPS. This type of a server is similar to a shared hosting account but the main difference is that instead of splitting it among thousands of websites, you are only going to share it with about half a dozen. This gives you access to a much larger chunk of the server resources which means that your website will run smoother and faster.

If your business continues to grow and the resources that you are using grow along with it, you will eventually need to get a dedicated server for yourself. Moving on to a dedicated server can be a little bit difficult, especially if you are not technical minded. The thing that you need to keep in mind, however, is that a dedicated server is not all that different from any other type of server. The main difference is the fact that you will have all of the resources for yourself and your websites will run better as a result.

One of the interesting things about virtual Private servers and dedicated servers is that you can often add different things to them. For example, you can pay for upgraded memory or perhaps a larger disk. This can really help your website to run well.

The first thing that you should look at are the variety of different shared servers that are available for you to use. Start out small and then move up as you feel the need and as your business continues to grow and to outgrow the servers.

Using The Mouse To Select Text In Microsoft Word

by Dwight Davidson

Before you can edit or format a block of text in Microsoft Word 2007, you need to select it. Selecting the text is a way of telling Word that you want to work with a certain piece of text. (Selecting is also referred to as Highlighting.)

The most straightforward way of highlighting text is to position the cursor where you want to start highlighting, click and hold the mouse button down and drag to the position where you want the highlight to end. It is not essential to drag across every single line that you want to highlight. It’s sufficient to move the mouse in a straight line from the start to the finish. To deselect your text and get rid of the highlight, click anywhere in the text. The blinking cursor will then reappear.

Selecting with multiple mouse clicks

Another way of highlighting text is to click multiple times. To highlight a word, double-click on the word. To highlight an entire paragraph, click three times on the paragraph. To highlight the entire document, click three times in the left margin.

Highlighting lines

As well as highlighting characters by dragging across them, Word also allows you to select lines of text. To do this, position the cursor in the left margin and you’ll notice that the cursor changes to an arrow pointing to the right. Once the cursor has changed, you can simply click to select a single line or click, hold down the mouse button and drag to select several lines.

Multiple clicks

Another method of highlighting text is to click multiple times. To select a word, double-click on the word. To select an entire paragraph, click three times on the paragraph. To select an entire document, click three times in the left margin.
